Stockhausen Complete Edition on CD

Since 1991, a complete edition of all recordings in which Karlheinz Stockhausen has personally participated is being released on compact discs. Each CD in this series is identified by Stockhausen's signature followed by an encircled number. The numbers indicate the general historical order of the works.
Stockhausen realised the electronic music and participated in these recordings as conductor, performer, sound projectionist, and musical director. He personally mixed down the recordings, mastered them for CDs, wrote the texts and drew the covers.

  • The compact discs may be obtained from the Stockhausen-Verlag: Kettenberg 15, 51515 Kuerten, Germany (www.stockhausenCDs.com).

SAMSTAGS-GRUSS / SATURDAY GREETING

Instrumentation

The orchestra of SATURDAY'S GREETING (LUCIFER'S GREETING)
is divided into 4 groups:

I 1 Percussionist: 2 Tubular Bells
8 Horns
sound and notation
II 1 Percussionist: 2 Javanese Gongs
(also known as Khwang-wong
or Thai Gamelon:
gold-coloured bronze, gongs with nipple, hung)
sound and notation
  2 Alto Trombones
  2 Baritones (or Tenor Horns)
  4 Euphoniums
III 6 Trombones
IV 4 Tubas

The 4 groups are distributed in the form of a cross, as high and as far away from one another as possible.

They must have visual contact and play without a conductor. They remain synchronous by means of rhythmic movements of body and instrument (see Notation).
Groups I, II, III play standing, the tubas may sit. In each group, the musicians stand (sit) in rows raised behind one another so that each individual may be seen.

SATURDAY GREETING

Attention: In small auditoriums, it is also possible to perform
SATURDAY GREETING with fewer musicians.

The smallest possible version is for 7 brass and 2 percussion:

Group I: 1 percussionist
  2 horns
Group II: 1 percussionist
1 alto trombone or 1 baritone (or 1 tenor horn)
  1 euphonium
Group III: 2 trombones
Group IV: 1 tuba

The same parts may be used for this version, as for the large one.
